BACKLINKS - How to Build Backlinks
Backlinks (or back-links (UK)) are incoming links to a website or web page. The number of backlinks is an indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page. In basic link terminology, a backlink is any link received by a web node (web page, directory, website, or top level domain) from another web node (Björneborn and Ingwersen, 2004). Backlinks are also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links.
BackLink Building for Improved Search Engine
Ranking:
Most webmasters who are familiar with Search
Engine Optimization and involved in promotion of
websites realize the importance of link building
to achieve high rankings in Search Engines such
as Google. Even a preliminary reading on the
Internet guides them to initiate link exchange
with websites, particularly with higher PageRank
link pages. The more enlightened webmasters
pursue links from related industries and also
focus on customizing their Anchor Text (link
text) in the incoming links.
However, very often their understanding is limited to this information and lower PR links are generally considered worthless, not fit to pursue. This article attempts to simplify & demystify a lot link building issues and show you how in fact, lower PR incoming links are also important & can give you a greater mileage in your quest for high rankings of your website.
Search engines often use the number of backlinks that a website has as one of the factors for determining that website's search engine ranking. For example, Google's PageRank algorithm uses backlinks to help determine a site's rank (the Google Toolbar can be used to view the PageRank of a web page). Therefore, websites often employ various techniques (called search engine optimization) to increase the number of backlinks pointing to their website.
Often search engines displays the sites having your backlinks instead of your main site when it is not indexed. By this way, people can easily locate your site even when it is not listed in the search engines. Backlinks increases your site importance and hence your search engine position. You can use this tool to check the position of your site in google search according to your keyword since it is the main words by which people can reach your site. You will realize that your site is listed in bold in some of the results especially when that is a back link instead of your original website.
Due to the abuse of using paid links to improve Google partially updated their Page Rank Tool to pin against paid links providers and the forward link of sites. This action resulted in a significant decrease in Page Rank of many websites worldwide. However although many believe that Google penalizes people for having unrelated backlinks to their sites, this has never been confirmed. top
Google frequently only shows a subset of all existing backlinks to a web page , possibly because of the network costs of providing this information and to avoid exposing the inner-workings of their ranking algorithms. Yahoo!’s Site Explorer and Microsoft's Live Search may give more accurate backlink counts. Google has recently added a new webmaster tool which allows webmasters to view more Backlinks to their websites
How to Build Backlinks
Back linking is very important, but irrelevant back links can kill your site in search engines. Therefore, much care must be taken to use relevant linking instead. This method is currently the most cheapest and commonest today on the net. There are plenty of link exchange directory who are not just operating on listing your site in a link exchange directory, but serves as a medium by which two webmasters can interact in exchanging links. Take note that whilst search engines like yahoo accept link farming, google frown upon them as bad practice. But still, since billions of sites are to be crawled and indexed, link framers get the credit since it is not easy to identify them with the modern method of link exchange. It still remain the best sources of back link for small sites.
Another way to have a relevant linking is to have your own link page where you exchange links with users of your site who falls in your category. The best way to do this is not by using forms, since people are very used to using forms to send requests which are not important, but rather a contact form which is more respected. This is a reciprocal link exchange and not very effective as one way link exchange. ( see methods of web site linking for more details). Reply as quickly as possible to such request as soon as you have reviewed such sites.
One other effective way of obtaining quality back links is by putting the link to us html text on your page. People are often interested in quality content and other stuffs they find on the sites they visit. If you have a website analytic tool, You can check the average time users spend on your sites. This will tell you whether you are providing quality content for your users or not. In one of my sites, I just had 10 minutes of average time users spend on my site. This will tell you that they are interested in your site and cannot afford to lose your links. If such happen, You can take an advantage of putting the link to us html text on your page. Webmasters who are interested in your site will kindly copy that text to their site and thereby linking to yours. This is a one way link- the most effective in page rank. top
There are several other effective methods in doing this, and they can be found in the article :web site linking
You can make use of the following resources to increase your Backlinks . Having only incoming links and only few or none outgoing links (reciprocal) is very vital in back linking and pageRank.
Make use of classified ads.- Classified ads
are very effective way of getting only incoming
link from the classified ad site with no
reciprocal urls.
directories, posting in forums, blogs
and article directories,
news announcements and press releases
are other ways of getting a natural backlink.
Avoid "Bad Neighborhoods". Focus on One-Way or Non-Reciprocal Links:
Linking to "Bad Neighborhoods" should be avoided at all costs. Websites which are penalized by search engines, websites having spammy link pages, link-farm network pages or websites deploying dubious black-hat techniques are considered "Bad Neighborhoods". Linking to such sites can earn penalties for your website too. Excessive linking to "Bad Neighborhoods" websites can trigger a penalty filter for your website and sink all your link building investments and promotional efforts.
Even an expert eye can sometimes not detect or identify a bad neighborhood. Already-penalized websites and websites deploying black-hat SEO techniques are not easy to identify. Unless each site is very carefully evaluated, linking to another website through exchanging links exposes you to the possibility of your website unknowingly linking to bad neighborhoods. Even if you link to, what you consider a "safe-looking" web page, it can later turn into a spammy page full of links or become part of a penalized website. Links to such bad neighborhoods can be disastrous. top
